Kieran Kinsella più che un artigiano è un vero e proprio artista. Crea e realizza a mano mobili, intagliati nel legno o in ceramica colorata, dalle interessanti forme organiche, talvolta ironiche.
Alcuni di questi pezzi li ha realizzati per la sua casa di Rosendale (NY) dove si è trasferito, dopo aver vissuto a Brooklyn, con sua moglie Giselle Potter, artista ed illustratrice di libri per bambini, e dove sono nate le loro due figlie.
La loro casa, ricca di fascino, esprime molto bene la personalità dei due proprietari che, accumulando in 17 anni oggetti di varia origine, e mescolandoli con i pezzi realizzati da Kieran e con alcune opere di Giselle e della sua famiglia di artisti, hanno evitato accuratamente i mobili in serie. Anche nelle stanze delle bambine.
Tutto questo ha dato vita ad un insieme dall'aria vissuta, accogliente ed originale allo stesso tempo.
Per le loro due figlie hanno anche realizzato una versione molto particolare di "casa sull'albero"; infatti in realtà si trova ai piedi di un albero.
Per curiosità sono andata su Google Map a vedere dove si trova Rosendale ed ho scoperto un delizioso villaggio della valle dell'Hudson, lungo il Rondout Creek, con le tipiche casette in legno con i portici, la chiesetta in mattoni, circondato da splendidi boschi. Mi è venuta subito voglia di fare un viaggio on the road negli USA, e mi sono chiesta "Come sarebbe vivere a Rosendale ?".
Kieran Kinsella more than a craftsman is a real artista. Egli creates and manufactures hand-carved furniture in wood or colored ceramic, with interesting organic shapes, sometimes ironic.
He has made some pieces for his home in Rosendale (NY), where he moved after living in Brooklyn with his wife Giselle Potter, artist and illustrator of children's books, and where their two daughters were born.
Their house, full of charm, I find that expresses very well the personality of the two owners that, accumulating in over 17 years, objects of various origins, and mixing them with the pieces made by Kieran and with some works of Giselle and her family of artists have carefully avoided the furniture in series, also in the rooms of girls.
All this has given rise to a home, comfortable and original at the same time.
For their two daughters have also made a very special version of "tree house"; in fact it is actually located at the foot of a tree.
Out of curiosity I went on Google Map to see where is Rosendale and I discovered a delightful village of the Hudson Valley, along the Rondout Creek, with typical wooden houses with porches,the brick church, surrounded by beautiful forests.
And immediately I desire to take a road trip in the USA, and I ask myself: "How is life in Rosendale?".
