Matrice

La natura genera materia e grazie all'opera dell'artista si trasforma in arte in un ciclo continuo senza soluzione di continuità.

Questa è l'essenza dell'opera di Giuseppe Penone esposta a Roma al Palazzo della Civiltà italiana. 

La mostra, visitabile gratuitamente fino al 16 luglio 2017, è curata da Massimiliano Gioni e prende il nome da una delle opere dell'artista esposte: Matrice.

La natura non è mera fonte d'ispirazione per l'artista ma sostiene l'arte e la cultura, ne è la base (metafora espressa in Foglie di pietra dai capitelli poggiati sui rami, opera del 2013) L'uomo non può dominarla ma da Lei può apprendere; così in Essere Fiume del 2010 Penone riproduce perfettamente, ricreandola in marmo, una roccia naturale.

In Ripetere il bosco l'artista  scolpisce  tronchi e rami partendo da travi in legno prodotte dall'uomo, invertendo il processo consueto  di realizzazione di un manufatto di cui generalmente l'elemento naturale è materia prima, divenendone in questo caso il prodotto finale; quindi il ciclo può essere invertito ma non interrotto.

E la natura può farsi anche strumento d'arte come in Spine d'acacia-Contatto del 2006 in cui Penone rappresenta un volto su tela delineandolo con migliaia di spine. 

Fa da sfondo a tutto questo l'architettura metafisica del suggestivo edificio razionalista che a Roma tutti conoscono come il "Colosseo  quadrato"  che con le sue linee e rigide proporzioni geometriche si contrappone e allo stesso tempo esalta l'opera organica dell'artista. 

The nature generates matter and through the artist's work becomes art in a continuous cycle without solution of continuity.

This is the essence of the work of Giuseppe Penone exhibited in Rome at the Palace of Italian Civilization.

The exhibitio, visited free of charge until 16 July 2017, is curated by Massimiliano Gioni and takes its name from one of the artist's works on display: Matrix (Matrice).

Nature is not merely a source of inspiration for the artist but supports art and culture, it is the their basis (metaphor expressed in "Stone leaves" (work of 2013) The umanity can not dominate but from she can learn;  so in "Being River" Penone plays perfectly with marble recreating a natural rock.

In "Repeat the forest" the artist carves trunks and branches starting from wooden beams produced by man, by reversing the usual process of realization of an artifact referred to generally the natural element is the raw material, becoming in this case the final product; then the cycle can be reversed but not interrupted.

And nature can also be  tool of art as a in "Acacia's thorns" where Penone design a face on canvas with thousands of thorns.

Is the background to all this the metaphysical rationalist architecture of the impressive building  that in Rome everyone knows as the "Square Colosseum" which, with its rigid lines and geometric proportions, contrasts and at the same time enhances the artist's organic work.
