 Cinecittà, Factory of dreams

Today I bring with me to a magical place and a bit nostalgic: Cinecittà studios in Rome.

Built in 1937 in the rationalist style from the architect and urban planner G. Peressutti, is the brainchild of an ambitious idea: a  big cinematograph center in which to realize the entire production cycle, from script to mount the film.

With its ten soundstages, including the legendary Teatro 5 so loved by Federico Fellini, Cinecittà was for a time the largest European film center, among other things headquarters of the scool  "Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia".

Federico Fellini, Ettore Scola, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Luchino Visconti, Franco Zeffirelli are just some of the filmmakers  that made Cinecittà very famous; then the big American productions (those of Quo Vadis ?, Ben Hur to name only the most famous) have made it a legendary place. Audrey Hepburn, Ava Gardner, Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida are a few of the stars who have worked there.

Today it is still a huge laboratory where professionals, artisans and craftsmen working to give shape to our dreams, as is evident walking through the majestic scenery made entirely of wood, styrofoam and fiberglass, which don't reproduce  really existed places but ideal cities that have the meant to evoke eras and sensations.

An ancient Rome, a medieval italian city, Jerusalem and its temple, a New York in ruins (already partially destroyed by a fire "built" by Martin Scorsese during the filming of the movie "Gangs of New York") are the sets currently visited that can give an idea of the potential of this place.

In our imaginary Cinecittà is a veritable factory of dreams, for what was, what could have been and for what, we hope, will become in the future.

Look at the pictures and judge for yourself!

E l'obiettivo equilibrio a me sembra raggiunto. E voi che ne pensate?

Matter of balance

"What I love most of my home is it's filled with memories of places I've been, but more with what keeps me tied to San Francisco". This is what Leslie Santarina, editor of Spotted SF, thinks about his apartment in a Victorian building, built in 1892, in the Pacific Heights area.
On her blog she collects photographs and news of architecture, bars, restaurants, shops and events in the Bay Area; in her house collects object in ceramic, memorabilia of his travels, and works by local photographers.
But do you know what Leslie is particularly proud of? Of the chromatic balance that she reached into her apartment, the right compromise between the coldness of total white and an excess of color that would have been too cumbersome in a small apartment.
Neutral colors (white, gray, beige), delicately enlivened by green plants flourishing thanks to abundant light entering through the windows, forms the palette that Leslie has chosen to create it.
And the goal of balance is reached, isn'it?

The wild world of Rousseau
In the Museo d'Orsay,Paris, until July 17, 2016 you can visit the exhibition celebrating the work of Hernri Rosseau: "The arcaique innocense"
Rousseau, said the Customs officer, (1844-1910) is a unique case in the history of modern art.
Employed of the duty of Paris,he dedicated to the self-taught painting only after retiring.
Exuberant artist feels quite far from the impressionist and modern trends of late nineteenth century admiring rather academic painters.
Success comes towards the end of his life above all thanks to the exotic subjects of great size that represent with minute details an extraordinary fantasy world populated by wild and uncontaminated plants and  animals.

But if you do not plan to go to Paris in the coming months you could buy some piece of furniture that take you back to this instinctive and visionary artist.

Que viva el color!

Se dico "Messico"  a voi cosa viene in mente? A me viene in mente "colore".

If I say "Mexico" to you what comes to mind? I can think "color."
The color of the architecture of Luis Barragan(1902-1988) or the paintings of Frida Kahlo.
The color of the houses of Guanajuato and of the local crafts.
