This apartment, with the big Gothic windows in the historic center of Mexico City, is eccentric as his owner, the interior Belgian designer Dirk Jan Kinet; but it's sober yet.
It remind the classic style of the houses of the upper middle class European city until the sixties with the parquet floor slightly worn, the high ceilings, the rooms opening one by one, some traditional furniture as the "buffet" and glass cabinets  and portraits and prints hanging on the walls.
But the bright colors of the walls and fabrics, originality of many objects, the unpredictability of some combinations, such as crystal chandelier above the table and chairs that reinterpret the collection designed by Eero Saarinen Tulip, everything makes it a home unique, eclectic, ironic and contemporary.
Dirk demonstrates the ability of those who know how to surround themselves, without unnecessary sacrifices, of all the objects he likes, without fear of creating an incoherent set, but rather finding a logical thread that binds them.
A style lesson that makes us reflect: the elegance is the result of a successful alchemy, and not the result of respect the rules.

Proprio come i sogni.

Dressed in architecture
Could be illustrations of one of my favorite books, "Invisible Cities" by Italo Calvino (1923-1985), these works of the Polish artist Tomek Sętowski.
In the book Marco Polo describes to the Tartars Emperor, Kublai Khan,  the town without time or geographical location, which he visited during his travels; all with a woman's name.
Tomek Sętowski, paints women as goddesses and mythological figures, literally "dressed" by architecture: palaces, domes, staircases, fortifications, and mazes of streets.
Both represent realistic descriptions of inner worlds through the city.
Both they tell a fantastic journey, which draws an atlas of unreal places, but  with something of familiar. Just like dreams.

Two shelters in the park
In the heart of Provence, in the national park of the Alpilles, where the cultivated fields end and wooded area begins, there are two "cabanes" in wood. The surrounding environment is still pristine, in fact to reach them you need to travel a long path.
Bruno Lafforgue bought them a few years ago and  he renovated it with passion to make it a place "friendly and harmonious" where you can spend a few days totally immersed in nature, not far from the beautiful cities of Avignon and Arles and the lively town of Saint Remy.
He  made  many of furniture, with wood and other natural materials recovery, while most of the tissues originate from distant countries.
Bruno took care of all the details, making two shelters marked by simple but comfortable and equipped with every comfort.
Look at the inside and you will be amazed ...

This of which I speak today is not a real home but a stage set created by Gary Williamson for the fun movie "Paddington".
Externally the house of the Brown family, who welcomes Paddington in London, is identified with the blue building of Chalcot Crescent 30, Primrose Hill.

The interiors are reconstructed in the studio and the director uses a doll house to describe the environments and their inhabitants one by one.

The centerpiece of the house is the spiral staircase that connects the three floors. In fact, on the back wall of the stairwell there is a large cherry tree painted by Mrs. Brown, which changes its appearance following the course of history.

The livingroom is a bit chaotic and "lived", just like that of a normal family, but not without charm with blue walls and the velvet sofa (which recall the color of the famous coat of the  bear) and a horse carousel used as a piece of furniture.

The bedrooms are very unique. That of Mrs. Brown with fantastic floral designs in lacquer red upholstery and furniture recovery (observe the lamps on either side of the bed).

The daughter's room with wall covered entirely by photographs.

The son's room, inventor, whit a big moon  as a backdrop to his extravagant games.

And finally, kitchen and bathroom with which the designer wanted to make a tribute to the 50's when it was born the character of Paddington.

It is only a  stage set, but to me it seemed really original and rich of  detail.
If you have not already done, I suggest you to see the movie and you will not be disappointed.
