On the roofs of Montmartre
Again Double G, again  Paris, but this time a romantic apartment between the rooftops of Montmartre near the Abbesses metro station (remember the movie " Amelie"? Is one of the places dear to the protagonist).
The apartment, with large windows from which you can enjoy the panorama, consists of a small living room connected to the kitchen, large enough to accommodate a dining table and illuminated by " velux " open in the roof, bedroom and bathroom.
The signature of the Parisian agency  is recognizable: light colors (gray and white) chosen for the walls, in contrast with the black of doors, windows and kitchen furniture and accents of color ( yellow and aviation for the bedroom , yellow and fuchsia for the stay ) that enliven the whole. Black and white geometric patterns for pillows, carpet and pendant lamp on the table.
Then, important decor details like the black marble fireplace,or original how the structure of the wooden beams left exposed or unpredictable as the padding quilted effect, not  for the head of the bed, but for the entire wall behind it.
To demonstrate that the charm is not a matter of size.

I found on the site of a collaborator, Chloe Martin, the design drawings in which, even with some different details, the desired effect was already evident.

E allora...here we go!

Design icons #1: chairs
Like a jewel or a stylish accessory, which can make unique and special even the simplest look, design icons adorn any room.
Just a piece ( in my opinion, best not to overdo) to give character to any home, provided it is carefully chosen among the endless possibilities and variations, in agreement or in total contrast to the rest of the furniture.
Another key requirement is that it is really recognizable like  a cult piece of design.
So I decided to dedicate a few posts to a brief review (nothing definitive and exhaustive), which could help in this choice, starting from the chairs, objects  not only indispensable but also easy to place, and which  often have  a cheap price; the trend of the moment is the combination of different patterns around a table.

So ... here we go!

The Suzy's mix
The English Suzy Hoodless after having been part of the editorial team that founded "Wallpaper magazine" has established a design consulting firm that manufactures residential and commercial projects for international clients.
Among the her  works, there are the London headquarters for Working Title Films, the Hoxton Grill for Soho House Group, a hotel in East London, a hunting lodge in Scotland and a private beach house in Barbados.
She also designed a collection of rugs for The The Rug Company and a collection of wallpaper by Osborne & Little.
"Draw someone's home is a thing very personal and intimate" in fact Suzy tries to create a internal on measure of  the custome, seeking the luxury even in small things, such as a light switch dimmerable.
She likes to mix old and new, to create relationships between design of the last century and pieces of today, who have benefited from new technologies.
In this house in Kensington, London, very important was the care in the choice of materials, from raw oak for the floors, to the handmade Moroccan tiles, the doors in powder-coated steel.
Historical pieces of design by Arne Vodder, Gabriella Crespi, Gio Ponti and Paavo Tynell are mixed with contemporary works by Michael Anastassiades, Eames and Muuto.
Heart of the home is the kitchen with an island in black marble and oak furniture gray. Marble also for the fireplace in the living room with geometric lines.
A structure from glass and metal isolates the area devoted to the study with respect to the corridor, adding an unexpected touch of industrial style and a nice contrast with the railing in wrought iron.
A successful mix of styles, materials, and elements of different ages and from different sources shows that Suzy has not only taste but also design culture.

Gusto scandinavo a San Pietroburgo

Scandinavian flavor in St. Petersburg
Another project of INT2 architecture, this time an apartment in St. Petersburg about 100 square meters.
The living room is treated as an open space but with distinct functional areas.
The dining area is housed in a sort of wooden gazebo with the slightly raised floor, the office is hidden behind walls-libraries, while the area devoted to the kitchen with center island, is highlighted by a ceiling made of wooden beams painted white.
To create an intimate and relaxing is fundamental the  choice of colors: neutral colors for walls and floors, gray and taupe sofa and armchair, just enlivened by touches of pastel colors, among which the coral and blue.
For the furniture, "a mixture of Scandinavian tradition and modern design" designed to create simple environments but studied in detail.
